A Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) confirms that a taxpayer’s tax affairs are in good standing — meaning there are no outstanding tax returns or debts owed to SARS.
To be eligible for a Tax Clearance Certificate, the following conditions must be met:
The taxpayer must be registered with SARS and have an Income Tax Reference Number
All tax liabilities must be settled (no outstanding debt)
All tax returns must be submitted and up to date
To proceed with the TCC application, the following documents and information are required:
Company/CC registration documents (if applicable)
Certified ID copies of the sole proprietor and/or members/directors
Income Tax Reference Number
Contact details of the taxpayer
The process typically takes 3–5 business days, although delays may occur due to SARS workload.
Once approved, your Tax Clearance Certificate will be emailed directly to you.
