Company Name Reservation

Navigating Financial Success Together

So, you’ve come up with a brilliant business idea and have the perfect name in mind—but you’re not quite ready to launch just yet? The good news is that you can still take the first step by reserving your future company name.

Name Reservation is the process that allows you to secure a business name before registering your company. This ensures that your chosen name is protected while you prepare to officially start your business.

The first step toward launching your future business is submitting a Name Reservation application. Once approved, your reserved name will be valid for 6 months. Within this period, you can either register your company or renew the name reservation if needed.

To proceed with your Name Reservation application, you’ll need to provide us with four name options, listed in order of preference. This increases the chance of approval if one or more of your name choices are already taken.

The application process usually takes 2–3 working days. However, please note that delays can occur if the CIPC is experiencing a high volume of applications.

There are two possible outcomes of a Name Reservation application. If approved, you will receive a Confirmation Notice (COR 9.4). If rejected, you will receive a Notice Refusing Name Reservation (COR 9.5).

To reduce the risk of rejection, here are a few helpful tips for choosing a suitable name: aim for something unique and original that will capture public attention.

Avoid using any offensive, inappropriate, or vulgar language in your proposed names, as these will likely be rejected by CIPC.
