Co-operative Registration
Navigating Financial Success Together
A Co-operative is a unique type of business entity that provides products and/or services to its members, who share in the profits—referred to as surpluses—based on the level of their participation in the co-operative’s activities.
Registering a co-operative means forming a legal entity with its own rights and obligations. Before doing so, it’s important to understand that co-operatives must maintain accurate and consistent records as part of their ongoing legal and operational responsibilities.
To register a co-operative, you will need to provide the following documents and information:
The number of members (minimum of five) and their certified ID copies
Four proposed names, listed in order of preference
The postal and physical address of the co-operative
Contact details for the co-operative (including email addresses and phone numbers)
Full details of all members (addresses, emails, and phone numbers)
A Limited Power of Attorney, signed by all intended members, giving us authority to register on your behalf (this will be sent to you via email after placing the order)
The co-operative registration process consists of two main steps:
Step 1 – Name Reservation: This typically takes 1–2 business days, though delays may occur due to CIPC system issues or high demand.
Step 2 – Co-operative Registration: Once your name is approved, registration may take 2–4 weeks, depending on CIPC processing times.
Once the co-operative is successfully registered, you will receive the following documents by email or post:
